Let it Rain!

It’s raining, it’s pouring… and San Diego County is finally receiving some rain! So now what?

If rain is forecast with a 50 percent or greater probability, it is considered likely to occur and will require implementation of a Rain Event Action Plan (REAP) for construction projects of higher risk levels for those projects covered by the California State Water Resources Control Board Construction General Permit (CGP) Order 2009-0009-DWQ, which remains in effect until a new Order is adopted.

Did you know that the CGP defines a qualifying rain event as that which produces precipitation of at least 0.5 inch? And that a construction site inspection is required within two business days (48 hours) after each qualifying rain event?

If you want to see the latest totals within three days of a rain event, navigate to the NOAA National Weather Service (NWS) Rainfall link under Additional Forecasts for a selected location (https://www.weather.gov/wrh/), or go here: https://www.weather.gov/sgx/Hydro and click one of the available reports for your area. For San Diego areas, our two favorites are:

Has it been more than three days and you wanted to document rainfall amounts in a report for specific days? If you want to check on the rain total for a specific date and place in San Diego, go here: https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/sgx/obs/rtp/rtpmap.php?wfo=sgx, select the nearest station, and then select the year. This is quicker than the process of obtaining the rainfall data from AgACIS WETS tables (http://agacis.rcc-acis.org/), although the WETS tables will calculate the total rainfall by month and by year.

Enjoy the long-awaited rainy weather in San Diego County! We hope you find the time to sing in the rain or at least splash in some puddles!
